Warriors Keep Finals Hopes Alive with Win Over Tigers
The New Zealand Warriors kept their NRL finals hopes alive with a well-earned 28-16 victory over the Wests Tigers at Go Media Stadium in Auckland. The Warriors needed the win and they delivered, dominating the match and showing resilience despite a fightback from their opponents.
In the first half, the Warriors jumped to an early lead, scoring two tries before the Tigers could respond. Kurt Capewell and Edward Kosi crossed the line to give New Zealand a solid 14-0 lead at halftime.
After the break, the Tigers sparked to life. Isaiah Papali’i made a strong return and crashed over for a try, followed by Charlie Staines adding another. Suddenly, the score was 14-10, and the Tigers were back in contention.
But the Warriors weren’t going to let their lead slip away. Addin Fonua-Blake scored a try of his own, solidifying the Warriors’ position. Notably, Fonua-Blake had an outstanding game, racking up impressive statistics.
Roger Tuivasa-Sheck made his presence felt, showcasing his skills and helping set up a late try by Dallin Watene-Zelezniak. The Tigers managed a consolation try from their captain, Api Koroisau, but it wasn’t enough to overturn the scoreline.
The atmosphere was electric with a sold-out crowd cheering on the Warriors. Chanel Harris-Tavita, who struggled with conversions earlier in the season, managed to kick crucial goals that kept the momentum on the Warriors’ side.
The Warriors’ win puts them two wins outside of the NRL finals, leaving them hopeful as the season continues. Meanwhile, the Tigers face a long road ahead as they search for consistency in their performances.
