SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Jonathan Kuminga‘s future with the Golden State Warriors is in jeopardy as tensions grow between the player and head coach Steve Kerr. With the postseason set to commence on Tuesday, Kuminga’s declining role and recent performance have sparked concerns among team officials and fans alike.

Tim Kawakami, a columnist for the San Francisco Standard, highlighted the unease during a recent commentary: “When [Kerr] said at the last game, ‘We were playing better weeks ago. We’re not playing as well as we were weeks ago,’ what happened a few weeks ago? Jonathan Kuminga came back in the lineup,” Kawakami said. “It’s pretty obvious that Steve Kerr is not too interested in having Jonathan Kuminga be in the main rotation.”

Kuminga, 22, has averaged 12.2 points per game on 44.1 percent shooting across 15 appearances since returning from injury. This significantly trails behind his season average of 15.3 points per game. Additionally, his struggles from beyond the arc, where he has connected on only 17.1 percent of his attempts, may have influenced Kerr’s decision to limit his minutes.

The Warriors are currently facing pressure to refine their lineup ahead of the playoffs, especially following a recent dip in performance that coincided with Kuminga’s reintegration into the squad. Earlier in the season, Kerr praised Kuminga’s contributions, even opting to start him over star player Draymond Green for a brief period.

This ongoing situation is particularly pivotal as Kuminga has a $10.24 million qualifying offer looming for the next season. His conduct and performance during the playoffs, along with his relationship with Kerr, will play a crucial role in determining his status with the team moving forward.

As the postseason approaches, the Warriors must navigate these internal challenges while maintaining momentum. Executive decisions regarding Kuminga will not only affect the player’s trajectory but also the team’s overall dynamics as they strive for another championship title.
