Warriors’ Moses Moody Confuses Pickup Players in Atlanta
Atlanta, Georgia – NBA player Moses Moody shared a funny story about being misrecognized while playing pickup basketball in Atlanta over the offseason.
Moody, a guard for the Golden State Warriors, was playing at Kanis Park, where he spent his childhood. He recalled a moment during a game when some local players questioned his identity.
“I was in Atlanta for a while. I was playing with some guys back home in Little Rock out there in Kanis Park, where I grew up playing,” Moody told reporters on Friday. “When I walked on the court, some of the guys said, ‘Is that Moses Moody?’”
Despite initial confusion, Moody went on to play and shoot with his left hand. He admitted he airballed a few shots, leading to doubt among the onlookers. “Nah, that’s not him,” they said, prompting laughter.
Moody, 23, noted that he wasn’t actually supposed to be playing due to a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right shooting hand. He played through the injury during the last 25 games of the NBA season.
“I play as much as I can. I grew up playing ball, so when I was going through the surgery rehab—don’t tell Rick (Celebrini)—I was out here playing with my left hand at the park with whoever was out there,” Moody added. His torn UCL likely contributed to his mistaken identity on the court.
