Warriors Overcome Timberwolves in Game 1 of Semifinals Despite Curry Injury

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — The Golden State Warriors took Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals against the Minnesota Timberwolves, winning 99-88 at Target Center on May 6, 2025. The Warriors overcame the loss of star guard Stephen Curry, who suffered a hamstring injury in the second quarter.
Curry exited the game early after suffering the injury while the Warriors held a 30-20 lead. Golden State, without its star, relied on the strong performances from Jimmy Butler and Buddy Hield, who collectively contributed 44 points. Butler recorded 20 points, 8 assists, and 11 rebounds, while Hield added 24 points and was a game-high +22.
Despite a slow start, the Warriors managed to rally in the second half, capitalizing on a strong defensive effort. They limited the Timberwolves’ shooting to just 39.5 percent from the field and held them to a dismal 5-for-29 from three-point range.
An inconsistent offensive effort plagued the Timberwolves throughout the game. Anthony Edwards scored 23 points but struggled early, finishing the first half with only one point. The Timberwolves’ head coach Chris Finch acknowledged the difficulties, stating, “We didn’t establish our offensive rhythm, and that’s where it all began.”
In a critical moment during the game, the Warriors completed a 17-0 run to take control late in the first half. Draymond Green played a pivotal role, contributing 18 points and hitting key three-pointers.
After the game, Butler expressed the importance of stepping up in Curry’s absence, saying, “It’s hard playing without that man. But we got one on the road, and then we do what we got to do.” The Warriors will now look to carry this momentum into Game 2 against Minnesota on May 9, 2025.
