Warriors Prepares for Crucial Game Against Rockets in Playoff Showdown

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — The Golden State Warriors are gearing up for a critical Game 6 against the Houston Rockets on Friday night. This playoff game marks the earliest weekday start for the Warriors in over 30 years.
The Warriors head into this matchup following a Game 4 victory that showcased strong performances from star players Steph Curry, Buddy Hield, and Gary Payton II, who combined for 69 points. However, the focus will be on improving offensive strategies, particularly involving their key players, Curry and Jimmy Butler.
As the team prepares, coach Steve Kerr emphasized the importance of maximizing offensive opportunities. “I’m not a big fan of zero-pass possessions,” Kerr stated. He pointed out that it is crucial for players, other than Curry and Butler, to facilitate the gameplay for the stars to thrive.
Despite the Warriors winning three of five games in this series, Kerr noted that there have been several possessions where the ball did not reach their primary offensive engines. This is problematic when the Rockets’ defense is effectively neutralizing their gameplay.
Kerr expressed confidence in second-year guard Podziemski, but urged for a better approach. “We have to play off Steph because of the attention he draws. And then once we got Jimmy, that became part of the mantra as well,” he said.
Furthermore, Kerr indicated that more plays will be designed to emphasize Draymond Green‘s playmaking abilities, particularly in light of Houston’s defensive prowess. The coach believes more involvement from Green will help exploit the chemistry he shares with Curry.
The Warriors’ offensive stats have declined this series, averaging only 24 assists per game compared to their regular season average of 29.1. The importance of securing the ball and limiting turnovers is critical for the Warriors’ success against the Rockets, who thrive on transition play.
As the Warriors aim to avoid a Game 7 scenario back in Houston, they have clear priorities: enhance offensive flow, minimize turnovers, and leverage the skills of their star players.
