Warriors’ Stephen Curry Suffers Injury, Misses Start of Road Trip

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry will miss the beginning of the team’s six-game road trip due to a pelvic contusion, sustained during a game against the Toronto Raptors. Curry injured himself while driving for a layup late in the third quarter and crashed to the floor at Chase Center.
An MRI conducted on Friday revealed no structural damage, but the team has opted to keep Curry out of Saturday’s game against the Atlanta Hawks. He will be reevaluated on Monday, according to the Warriors’ medical staff.
The injury occurred as Curry attempted to score with just over three minutes left in the third quarter. As he landed awkwardly, he grimaced in pain and remained on the floor for several minutes before being assisted off the court. Warriors coach Steve Kerr explained that Curry attempted to convince the staff to let him play again, but they decided against risking further injury.
“He thought he might be able to come back,” Kerr said. “We just decided not to risk anything. Hopefully, it’s not bad.”
Curry, an 11-time All-Star and two-time NBA scoring champion, had been leading the Warriors with an average of 24.3 points per game this season. In his 25 minutes on the court during Thursday’s game, he managed to score 17 points before exiting due to the injury. His performance continues to be crucial for the Warriors, who are currently fighting to maintain their position in the top six of the Western Conference to avoid the play-in tournament.
Teammate Draymond Green expressed concern over Curry’s well-being following the incident. “He hit that ground hard, you could hear it,” Green said. “It’s crazy. Obviously, a scary moment for us and for him. Hopefully he’s good.”
As the Warriors head out on a challenging road trip, they will look to other players such as Green and Jimmy Butler to step up in Curry’s absence. The team is determined to maintain their performance in pursuit of a strong playoff position.
The Warriors play the Hawks on Saturday before proceeding to face other teams like Miami next week. Kerr indicated that Curry’s status for the upcoming games will be guided by the suggestions from Rick Celebrini, the Warriors’ Director of Sports Medicine and Performance.
“Rick makes all those decisions based on his evaluation,” Kerr said. “At this point, it’s all speculation.”
