Warriors Welcome New Guard Taran Armstrong Against Mavericks

San Francisco, CA — The Golden State Warriors are set to face off against the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. EST, in a highly anticipated home game at Chase Center. This matchup not only marks the appearance of Klay Thompson but also celebrates Jimmy Butler‘s Warriors home debut and the retirement of Andre Iguodala‘s jersey.
Currently enjoying a 4-1 record under Butler’s leadership, the Warriors look to solidify their position with another victory. The team, however, awaits the return of forward Jonathan Kuminga, who is recovering from an injury.
In a strategic move following Butler’s acquisition, the Warriors have created several roster spots. In an update ahead of the game, ESPN Senior Insider Shams Charania reported that the Warriors are signing Australian international Taran Armstrong to a two-way contract. Armstrong, a versatile guard listed at 6-foot-6, has been impressive in the Australian National Basketball League (NBL), averaging 17.1 points, 4.7 assists, and 4.6 rebounds over 19 games this season.
Armstrong is expected to split his time between the Warriors and their G League affiliate in Santa Cruz, providing the team with a valuable option in the backcourt. Prior to his success in the NBL, Armstrong excelled at California Baptist University, where he led his conference in assists for two consecutive seasons.
With Brandin Podziemski currently playing alongside Steph Curry as the primary point guard, the addition of Armstrong offers Golden State a chance to evaluate his potential as a backup point guard as the season unfolds.
Head Coach Steve Kerr expressed optimism about Armstrong’s signing, stating, “Taran has shown great promise in the NBL. His skill set and size make him a good fit for our team, and we are excited to see what he brings as he develops within our system.”
The Warriors are eager to capitalize on their home-court advantage as they match up against the Mavericks, aiming for continued success in the young season.
