UP Warriorz Women’s Team Strengths and Weaknesses for the Upcoming Women’s Premier League
The UP Warriorz women’s cricket team is gearing up for the upcoming season of the Women's Premier League. After a tough outing in the previous season’s eliminator match against the Mumbai Indians, the Warriorz have been honing their strengths and addressing their weaknesses.
In the 2023 season, Tahlia McGrath was one of the standout performers for UP Warriorz, showcasing a stellar batting record with a strike rate of 158.11 and 302 runs to her name. Also, England’s Sophie Ecclestone made a mark by taking 16 wickets, creating a buzz for their performance in the upcoming season.
However, the Warriorz have released players like Devika Vaidya and Shabnim Ismail, which might impact their bowling attack. On the flip side, the recruitment of Danny Wyatt, Vrinda Dinesh, Saima Thakur, and Poonam Khemnar during the auctions has bolstered the team’s lineup, raising expectations for the franchise in the new season.
Looking at the team lineup, the presence of several international stalwarts like Sophie Ecclestone, Tahlia McGrath, and Grace Harris brings a formidable outlook to the UP Warriorz. While McGrath is known for her all-round skills, Harris can unleash havoc with her lethal bowling. Captain Ellyse Perry‘s on-field leadership will be crucial for the team’s success, along with the inclusion of Lauren Bell in place of injured Chamari Athapaththu.
Despite the strengths, UP Warriorz face a bowling struggle due to Shabnim Ismail’s departure. The onus will be on Anjali Sarvani, along with the spinners Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Deepti Sharma, and Ecclestone to step up their game and fill the void left by Ismail.
Expect all eyes to be on Grace Harris in the Women’s Premier League 2024, given her outstanding performance in the previous edition. The team management will have a challenging task of selecting the playing XI, especially with the need to accommodate four foreign players.
