Warwickshire Signs Jordan Thompson on Multi-Year Deal

BIRMINGHAM, England — Warwickshire County Cricket Club has signed Yorkshire all-rounder Jordan Thompson to a three-year contract, set to begin in the 2026 season. The 28-year-old, born in Leeds, has had an impressive career, taking 185 wickets in first-class cricket with an average of 27, and claiming 120 wickets in 116 T20 matches.
Thompson, who also has 10 fifties in first-class cricket, has agreed to a multi-format deal with Warwickshire that extends through the end of the 2028 campaign. Performance director James Thomas expressed enthusiasm over the signing, stating that Thompson is “a great fit” for the club’s ambitions to create a modern and adaptable squad capable of competing successfully in all formats.
The official move to Edgbaston will take place on November 1. Thompson commented that the decision to leave Headingley was “really tough,” but Warwickshire’s “clear vision” and the chance to play with familiar faces made the opportunity “truly exciting.”
Recently recovering from a side strain, Thompson showcased his skill by taking 15 wickets and scoring 178 runs in five County Championship matches before his injury. First-team coach Ian Westwood noted, “Jordan is a three-dimensional, multi-format player who will be a great addition to our squad both on and off the field. He’s a quality performer who I believe still has his best days in front of him.” Westwood added that Thompson is known for his competitiveness and thrives in crucial moments during matches.
The announcement of Thompson’s signing follows closely after Warwickshire revealed that spinner Danny Briggs would be leaving the team.
