Washington Commanders Jacory Croskey Merritt Nfl Draft

ASHBURN, Va. — The Washington Commanders selected running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt from Arizona with the No. 245 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft on April 26. Despite a challenging college career marked by eligibility issues, Croskey-Merritt has shown flashes of potential that caught the attention of NFL scouts.

Before transferring to Arizona, the 5-foot-10, 206-pound back played at Alabama State and New Mexico, where he demonstrated impressive skills. In 2023, he rushed for 1,190 yards and 17 touchdowns on 189 carries, averaging 6.3 yards per carry. He excelled at the East-West Shrine Bowl earlier this year, showcasing his explosive running style after appearing in only one game in the 2024 season due to eligibility concerns.

“Croskey-Merritt is a quick processor with good size and impressive cut quickness to gain yards in tight spaces,” said NFL analyst Lance Zierlein. “He finishes runs with purpose and has the one-cut talent to break free when needed.”

Now at 24 years old, Croskey-Merritt enters the NFL with significant potential. He possesses good burst and can deliver impactful runs. While his time in college was limited, he has the capability to contribute, particularly in a rotational role within the Commanders’ backfield. Washington, with its limited draft picks this year, decided to take a chance on Croskey-Merritt, hoping to add depth and explosiveness to their running game.

Croskey-Merritt’s previous college experience includes 1,496 total yards and 14 touchdowns throughout his college tenure. A standout at Pro Day, he ran a 4.45-second 40-yard dash, indicating his speed and agility. His performance in the draft could help him secure a spot on the Commanders’ roster, especially considering the team’s evolving running back room.

As training camp approaches, the Commanders will assess Croskey-Merritt’s fit within their system, focusing on his ability to contribute early in his career.
