Waterville Dumpster Fire Incident April 2025

WATERVILLE, Maine — A local man was charged with arson early Thursday morning after being found lying next to a dumpster engulfed in flames. Authorities responded to the scene around 2:30 a.m. when Waterville Fire and Rescue personnel were attending to a medical call nearby.

According to a news release by Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety, firefighters noticed the blaze on College Avenue, adjacent to 44 College Avenue, that had started next to a dumpster. Upon their arrival, they discovered 47-year-old Jason Woods lying on the ground with burning debris surrounding him.

Emergency responders acted quickly, pulling the flaming debris away from Woods to prevent him from sustaining serious injuries. Minor damage was reported to the dumpster itself, and officials confirmed that the fire was set intentionally.

Woods was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to Kennebec County Jail. He faces charges related to the arson incident. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, according to local authorities.

This incident underscores concerns regarding fire safety and the importance of prompt emergency response, especially in densely populated urban areas. Authorities have not disclosed further details about Woods’ motives as the investigation continues.
