Pittsburgh Marathon Rainy Weather

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Occasional showers will impact Western Pennsylvania through the weekend, affecting participants in the Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon.

The National Weather Service predicts that most of the rain will be light and scattered. However, runners and cheering squads should prepare for wet conditions on both days of the marathon.

Rain is expected to return Saturday afternoon with continued chances of showers and the possibility of thunderstorms. The best chance for thunder will be in the Laurel Highlands, where gusty winds are also anticipated. Although these storms may create brief disruptions, they are not expected to significantly hinder ongoing storm cleanup efforts in the area.

According to the forecast, overnight showers will linger into Sunday morning, coinciding with the marathon’s start. Fortunately, the intensity of the rain is expected to decrease by mid-morning, allowing for drier conditions as the race progresses. Organizers are hopeful that the latter part of the day will feature some sunshine, despite a chance of further showers by sunset.

This rainy system is forecasted to linger until Tuesday, with scattered showers continuing on Monday. By the end of the event, rainfall totals of one to two inches are expected across the region.

Weather updates indicate that Wednesday will be dry before a cold front moves in on Thursday, bringing more clouds and a slight drop in temperatures. The region is expected to warm back up and remain dry as Mother’s Day weekend approaches.
