NL West Dominates Early in 2025 MLB Season

LOS ANGELES, California — Just over two weeks into the 2025 Major League Baseball regular season, the National League West is setting a high bar, with three teams boasting double-digit wins. The San Diego Padres lead the division, closely followed by the reigning World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Francisco Giants, both of whom are tied for second place.

Prior to Saturday’s games, the Padres, Dodgers, and Giants were the only teams in the league with 10 or more wins. This marks a historic moment in the 57-year history of the Divisional Era, as it’s the first time that only three teams with 10-plus wins entering play are from the same division.

As of now, the Padres claim the top spot in the NL West, bolstered by a dominant pitching staff that has consistently performed well this season. “Our pitchers are really stepping up and leading the way for us,” said Padres manager Bob Melvin. “We’re all focused on maintaining this momentum.”

The Chicago Cubs managed to join the double-digit win club on Saturday but currently, the three teams leading the NL West still maintain the best winning percentages in baseball. Even the fourth-place Arizona Diamondbacks are tightly competing, trailing just one game behind for the third NL Wild Card spot, alongside the Milwaukee Brewers, who are 1.5 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies.

In a season that is still young, the tight competition within the NL West promises exciting matchups ahead. As Sam Connon of Sports Illustrated noted, “It’s shaping up to be a thrilling race, especially with so much talent in this division.”
