West Indies Women Triumph Over Bangladesh Women in Thrilling T20I
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The West Indies Women‘s cricket team secured a five-wicket victory against Bangladesh Women in the third T20I of the Bangladesh Women tour of West Indies on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025. The match, held at Sabina Park, saw the West Indies chase down a modest target of 105 runs in 18.3 overs, overcoming a spirited bowling effort from Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Women posted a total of 104/8 in their 20 overs, with captain Nigar Sultana Joty top-scoring with 33 runs off 43 balls. Dilara Akter contributed a quickfire 21 off 16 deliveries. However, the West Indies bowlers, led by Jannillea Glasgow, who took 3 wickets for 15 runs, kept the visitors in check.
In response, the West Indies Women started cautiously but accelerated when needed. Shabika Gajnabi anchored the innings with a steady 27 off 25 balls, while Glasgow added 25 runs off 28 deliveries. Bangladesh’s Fahima Khatun and Sultana Khatun took two wickets each, but their efforts weren’t enough to prevent the hosts from clinching the win.
“It was a team effort today,” said West Indies captain Stafanie Taylor. “The bowlers set it up, and the batters finished the job. We’re happy with the result.”
Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty acknowledged her team’s shortcomings. “We didn’t bat well enough, and that cost us the game. We’ll look to bounce back in the next match,” she said.
The victory gave the West Indies a 2-1 lead in the four-match series, with the final T20I scheduled for Feb. 3, 2025. Fans can expect another competitive encounter as both teams aim to end the series on a high note.
