West Texas A&m University Launches Buff Owned Business Directory

The West Texas A&M University Alumni Association is expanding its efforts to showcase the impact that the University has on the regional and national economy with the launch of the Buff-Owned Business Directory.

The initiative is an extension of the successful Buff Owned, Buff Operated Business window stickers program that began in July 2022. The digital directory aims to connect alumni-owned businesses with potential customers and already features over 100 businesses in 26 cities across the country, including a bakery in Selango, Malaysia.

The directory is divided into seven categories: agriculture, building and construction; cleaning, repairs and automotive; creative, educational and marketing; financial, realty, business and technology; fitness, health and wellness; food, retail and entertainment; and a category specifically for businesses in Canyon, where the university is located.

WT alumna, Megan Ward, who runs her own company called Altruistic, expressed her pride in her Buff roots and credited her WT education for the success of her business. She highlighted the networking opportunities provided by the Alumni Association, which connected her with another WT alumnus, Aaron Soto, whose company Sueno and Co. redesigned her website.

To join the directory, alumni can contact Abby Waters, assistant director of alumni relations, or register on the Buff Owned website.

The Buff-Owned Business Directory initiative aligns with the University’s long-range plan, which focuses on strengthening relationships with alumni and meeting the regional needs. The plan is supported by the ongoing comprehensive fundraising campaign, which has surpassed its initial goal of $125 million and is now aiming to reach $175 million by 2025. The campaign has already raised over $150 million.

West Texas A&M University, located in Canyon, Texas, has been part of The Texas A&M University System since 1990 and is known for its diverse degree programs and the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum. The university is also a member of the NCAA Division II Lone Star Conference.

Journey Coffee, owned by Noah and Stephanie Littlejohn, is one of the many businesses featured on the Buff-Owned Business Directory. The owners expressed their pride in being WT alumni and believe that the directory will help foster a closer connection between the university and the local community.
