West Virginia Hosts Lehigh in Men’s Basketball Showdown
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University will face Lehigh University in men’s basketball on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Hope Coliseum. This matchup comes as both teams seek to build momentum early in the season.
Lehigh enters the game with a record of 1-2, coming off a 91-52 win against Division III Valley Forge on Thursday night. Freshman guard Andrew Urosevic scored 23 points in that game, while junior guard Nasir Whitlock contributed 12 points, building on his strong performance from an earlier loss at second-ranked Houston.
Despite the loss to Houston, Lehigh showed resilience by scoring 34 points in the second half after trailing significantly at halftime. Veteran coach Brett Reed, now in his 19th season, aims to lead the Mountain Hawks to improve on their eighth-place preseason ranking in the Patriot League.
West Virginia holds a 5-0 all-time record against Lehigh, including a 78-68 victory during their last meeting in 2018. The Mountaineers boosted their record to 2-0 after defeating Campbell 73-65 on Thursday. Honor Huff led the Mountaineers with 23 points, helping secure a hard-fought win.
West Virginia coach Ross Hodge emphasized the importance of handling pressure and finding offensive rhythm as they continue through a challenging early season schedule. “We’re going to be in a lot of close games this year and the more you can feel that pressure… I think we’ll settle in,” Hodge said following the win against Campbell.
Both teams are expected to focus on improving their defense and rebounding as they prepare for Sunday’s matchup. Tickets for the game are still available for fans looking to support the Mountaineers as they aim for a decisive victory.
The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with radio coverage starting at 2 p.m.
