Western Force Women Battle Tokyo Sankyu Phoenix in Super W Pre-Season Trial
The Western Force women displayed a valiant effort in their Super W pre-season trial against the Tokyo Sankyu Phoenix at HBF Park, marking a tough opening to their series. Head coach Dylan Parsons utilized all 30 members of the extended match-day squad, providing each player with an opportunity to vie for spots in the upcoming Super W opener against the Melbourne Rebels. Parsons reflected on the match, acknowledging the mix of positives and areas for improvement in their gameplay.
The game showcased contrasting styles as the Force’s power game clashed with the Phoenix’s mobile and speedy approach. Despite a few errors from recently joined players, the match served as a valuable learning experience for the team’s cohesion and playing strategy. The physical battle, held amidst blistering heat, highlighted the team’s resilience and determination.
Early in the game, the Force surged ahead, applying pressure on the Phoenix and securing a lead through Sara Cline‘s try, converted by Samantha Wood. However, the Phoenix quickly responded, with notable tries from players such as Suzuha Okamoto and Misato Kuramochi, taking the lead. Aiysha Wigley’s impressive try for the Force kept them in contention, but the Phoenix’s swift offense proved challenging.
Despite the Force’s efforts, including multi-phase play and defensive solidity, the Phoenix managed to extend their lead in the second half with Okamoto securing her second try. The Force showcased resilience and determination throughout, setting the stage for their upcoming trials against the Melbourne Rebels and Queensland Country.
