Wests Tigers Release David Nofoaluma Amidst Contract Dispute

The Wests Tigers have made the decision to part ways with veteran winger David Nofoaluma amidst a contract dispute. The NRL club, currently under the guidance of rookie coach Benji Marshall, has terminated Nofoaluma’s contract two years early.

Nofoaluma, a long-time member of the Tigers, has accepted the club’s offer to buy out his contract for $300,000. This move comes after the club issued Nofoaluma with a second breach notice for missing training sessions due to illness.

The termination letter from the Tigers indicates that the 30-year-old may have played his final game for the club. Nofoaluma, who holds the record for the most tries scored by a Tiger, will now be seeking a new team.

The Wests Tigers have undergone significant squad turnover in recent years, with only a handful of players remaining from coach Michael Maguire’s first season in charge. Among the remaining players are Alex Twal, Adam Doueihi, and Asu Kepaoa.

Nofoaluma’s situation has attracted attention from the Rugby League Players Association (RLPA), who are working with all parties involved to reach a resolution. Former Tigers chairman Lee Hagipantelis spoke about Nofoaluma’s challenges and emphasized the need for him to align with the team’s expectations.
