Will Bryson Kuzdzal Shine as RB1 Against Maryland?
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan Wolverines running back Bryson Kuzdzal is poised for a significant role as the team prepares to face the Maryland Terrapins this Saturday. Following injuries to Justice Haynes and Jordan Marshall, Kuzdzal may become the starting running back (RB1) due to his recent performance and the depth challenges at the position.
Haynes is sidelined for the rest of the regular season following foot surgery, while Marshall suffered a shoulder injury during last week’s game against Northwestern. Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore expressed optimism about Marshall’s health but confirmed his status is uncertain for the Maryland game.
“I think Bryson would be the guy if Jordan can’t go,” Moore said. Kuzdzal stepped up against Northwestern, rushing 15 times for 53 yards, showcasing his speed and determination during crucial moments in the game.
Moore commended Kuzdzal’s physical style of play, noting, “He’s physical, he runs fast, he runs downhill.” Standing at around 6 feet tall and weighing approximately 215 pounds, Kuzdzal combines size and explosiveness, making him a vital asset in Michigan’s offense.
Michigan’s rushing attack could exploit Maryland’s defense, which ranks No. 102 overall in stopping the run. This matchup provides a critical opportunity for Kuzdzal, who has only accumulated 106 yards and one touchdown this season but looks to build on his recent success.
With preparation underway, Kuzdzal aims not only to gain further experience but also to make a mark in what could be a defining game for his emerging career. “That’s what we do; it’s the standard for the room,” he stated regarding the next-man-up mentality in the running back unit.
The Wolverines are currently 8-2 and will face Maryland before squaring off against Ohio State, a game that could determine their playoff chances. Regardless of any uncertainty, Michigan remains focused on execution and strategy against the Terrapins.
