Winnipeg Sea Bears Drop Cebl Mvp Teddy Allen Over Behavioral Issues

The Winnipeg Sea Bears, a team in the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL), have made a significant decision to release their star player, Teddy Allen, citing behavioral issues that have caused internal unrest within the organization.

According to head coach and general manager Mike Taylor, the reigning league Most Valuable Player, Teddy Allen, has been let go with immediate effect due to ongoing behavioral concerns that disrupted the team’s performance.

Teddy Allen, a guard who was named the league’s MVP in 2023, had been re-signed earlier in the year as a protected player by the Sea Bears. Despite his on-court prowess, his off-court behavior has led to fines by both the league and the team itself.

Coach Taylor highlighted instances where Allen’s behavior caused arguments with coaches during games, leading to a lack of focus among his teammates. Center Chad Posthumus and other players tried to assist Allen before the situation escalated to his eventual release from the team.

Expressing confidence in the remaining players, Taylor emphasized the need for a collective team effort and better synergy moving forward following Allen’s departure.

Team president, Jason Smith, echoed the sentiment that no player is bigger than the team and emphasized the organization’s commitment to upholding values and fostering a positive team environment.

The Sea Bears are currently struggling with their performance this season, sitting last in the Western Division with a 3-5 record. Despite Allen’s impressive point scoring, the team has faced challenges that have led to this difficult decision.

In their most recent game against the Edmonton Stingers, tensions heightened between Allen and his teammates on the court and bench, further emphasizing the need for a change within the team structure.
