Winter Storm Blair Threatens Power Outages Across Appalachia
Appalachian Power has warned customers of potential extended power outages as Winter Storm Blair approaches, bringing light-to-moderate ice accumulations and snow to Virginia and West Virginia. The utility company has mobilized 700 additional contractors, with 250 more on standby, to address the anticipated damage to power lines and infrastructure.
Ice accumulations of up to 0.50 inches are expected in the region, which can weigh down trees and power lines, leading to widespread outages. Appalachian Power emphasized the importance of preparedness, particularly for customers relying on electricity for medical devices.
