Wisconsin Badgers Dismiss Forward Elijah Gray Before Season Starts
MADISON, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Madison announced on Tuesday the dismissal of forward Elijah Gray from its men’s basketball team, citing events preceding his enrollment.
Gray, a fourth-year senior and a recent transfer from Temple University, had not yet played a game for the Badgers since joining this summer. A spokesperson for the university stated that privacy laws prevent them from sharing further details regarding his dismissal.
In a press release, Wisconsin Athletics clarified that the decision was connected to incidents that occurred before Gray’s arrival at UW-Madison. The ambiguity surrounding his departure raises questions about potential legal issues, though specifics remain undisclosed.
Prior to his time at Wisconsin, Gray played 25 games for Temple during the 2024-25 season, averaging nine points and 3.8 rebounds while shooting 48.1% from the field. His performance made him a significant bench option.
Gray was expected to contribute to the Badgers this season, but he did not participate in the team’s recent Red/White Scrimmage due to an illness and was also absent from the Badgers’ exhibition game against Oklahoma in Milwaukee.
The swift roster change indicates that Wisconsin may be preparing for potential developments regarding Gray’s situation. As of now, his removal leaves uncertainty as the season approaches.
