Wisconsin Badgers Dominate Providence with Boyd’s 36-Point Performance
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Nick Boyd scored a career-high 36 points as the Wisconsin Badgers defeated the Providence Friars 104-83 on Thursday at the Rady Children’s Invitational.
The win improved Wisconsin’s record to 5-1 this season, while they remain undefeated in non-conference play when scoring 90 or more points under head coach Greg Gard.
Boyd, who transferred from San Diego State, shot 15-of-25 from the field and contributed seven rebounds and seven assists during the game at Jenny Craig Pavilion. His scoring prowess helped Wisconsin to its largest point total in a non-conference game since they recorded 105 points against Eastern Illinois in December 1995.
Austin Rapp added 20 points and made five three-pointers, significantly boosting the Badgers’ offensive efforts. Nolan Winter also impressed with a double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
The Badgers sprinted to a strong first half, leading 51-32 at the break, thanks to a 20-7 scoring run. Boyd scored 18 of his points in that half, while Rapp netted 15 with four three-pointers.
Wisconsin’s fast-paced game gave them a distinct advantage, outscoring Providence 32-14 in fast break points, and limiting the Friars to their second-lowest scoring game of the season.
With the victory, Wisconsin advances to the championship game against TCU, scheduled for Friday at 4:30 PM CT. Fans can watch live on FOX or listen via the Badger Radio Network with Chris Vosters and Brian Butch on the call.
