Wisconsin Volleyball Team Celebrating A Win

The No. 7 Wisconsin volleyball team delivered a commanding performance on Friday evening, sweeping the Iowa Hawkeyes in a 3-0 victory at the UW Field House. The Badgers dominated all aspects of the game, winning the sets 25-15, 25-17, and 25-13. Sarah Franklin led the team with a match-high 15 kills, while Anna Smrek contributed 10 kills to round out the double-digit kills for Wisconsin[2].

The Badgers’ strong serving and blocking were key factors in their success. They held the Hawkeyes to a .087 hitting percentage, marking the eighth time this season they have limited their opponents to under a .100 hitting percentage. Wisconsin’s serving game was particularly effective, with the team recording six service aces compared to Iowa’s one. Charlie Fuerbringer, a freshman setter, had a standout performance with 32 assists and 14 digs, achieving her sixth double-double of the season.

Wisconsin’s defensive prowess was also on full display, with the team outblocking the Hawkeyes 10.0-5.0. Middle blocker Anna Smrek put down six blocks, contributing significantly to the Badgers’ defensive effort. The team’s overall hitting percentage was an impressive .394, with 42 kills and just 5 errors on 94 attempts.

Looking ahead, the Badgers are set to face a significant challenge as they take on No. 3 Penn State on Saturday afternoon. The match is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on NBC. Coach Kelly Sheffield emphasized the importance of the upcoming match, noting that Penn State is one of the best teams in the country and that the game will be a great opportunity for the Badgers to compete against top-level opposition[2]).
