Witton Albion made a strong start to their new Northern Premier League West season by winning 2-1 against City of Liverpool at the U Lock It Stadium.

Things looked shaky when the visitors scored just three minutes into the game through Xenon Bahula, but the host team quickly rallied to equalize just before halftime.

Joe Duckworth, who had earlier seen a goal disallowed for offside, scored a headed goal from an Elliot Rokka corner in the 41st minute.

Rokka turned from goal provider to goal scorer just three minutes into the second half, putting Witton ahead with a close-range finish after Duckworth set him up perfectly.

Throughout the match, Witton created several opportunities to extend their lead, while City of Liverpool had their chances as well, including a few close calls that left home goalkeeper Danny Roberts relieved after the woodwork saved him three times during the game.

Meanwhile, in a different match across town, 1874 Northwich kicked off their Midland League Premier Division campaign with a 2-1 victory over Lichfield City.

Matty Fenton opened the scoring early on after just eight minutes, followed by a second goal from Liam Fitzpatrick who scored in the 65th minute. Although Jack Arnold got one back for Lichfield City in the 82nd minute, 1874 held on for the win.

In the same league, Northwich Victoria also started their season with a win, clinching a dramatic 2-1 victory against Uttoxeter with a last-minute goal from Sam Unwin.

Over in the North West Counties League First Division South, Winsford United continued their unbeaten streak by defeating Sandbach United 3-0, with all their goals scored in the second half.

Blake Robinson, Ollie Pope, and Leo Tanswell were the goal scorers for Winsford United, with Pope marking his third goal of the season.

Meanwhile, Barnton managed to secure a point with a 1-1 draw against New Mills after experiencing a tough 4-0 defeat earlier in the week.
