Alex Len Indiana Pacers Signing

Indianapolis, IN — The Washington Wizards are expected to waive center Alex Len, who plans to sign with the Indiana Pacers upon clearing waivers, sources told ESPN. In his 12th NBA season, Len provides frontcourt depth for the Pacers.

Len, a 7-foot center, was acquired by the Wizards in a three-way trade earlier this week. The trade centered on guard Marcus Smart moving from the Boston Celtics to the Wizards. Len had played in 36 games for the Sacramento Kings this season, averaging 1.4 points and 1.8 rebounds per contest while shooting 53.7% from the field.

The Pacers, currently the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference with a 29-21 record, are looking to bolster their frontcourt depth. Len, who was the fifth pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, has played for several teams including the Phoenix Suns, Atlanta Hawks, Toronto Raptors, and Washington Wizards over his 12-year career. His career averages include 6.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game while shooting 51.0% from the field.

The move comes after the Pacers traded center James Wiseman, opening up a roster spot. Len’s addition is expected to provide depth behind starting centers Myles Turner and Thomas Bryant. “Definitely here for the Alex Len signing,” said one Pacers fan. “Indiana has NEEDED depth at center. Essentially think of it as James Wiseman’s contract for Alex Len. Does it ‘move the needle’? Just wait and see as you can NEVER plan for injuries!”

The Pacers have gone 7-3 over their last ten games and are preparing to face the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday afternoon. Len’s signing is expected to be finalized once he clears waivers, adding much-needed depth to the Pacers’ frontcourt as they push for a strong playoff run.
