Dijonai Carrington Wnba Referee Incident

CHICAGO, IL – WNBA player DiJonai Carrington accused referees of committing a ‘microaggression’ after security was called during a game against the Chicago Sky.

The incident occurred during a heated confrontation between Carrington and officials on May 29, 2025, after the Dallas Wings‘ loss to the Sky. Security guards intervened as tensions escalated, with one security guard positioned between Carrington and an official.

In a post on X, Carrington expressed her disbelief at the situation. She stated, “Security… when I’m literally having a civil conversation is insane. Mind you, he called the ‘sEcUrItY’ over there…” Carrington included a hashtag with a misspelled version of ‘microaggression’ in her post.

Cheryl Swoopes, a former Dallas Wings player, also weighed in on the situation. In her post on X, she criticized the referee, stating, “If this man was scared (of what, I don’t know) and needed security, he should NEVER be able to ref again! This can’t be real!”

The controversy surrounding Carrington isn’t new. Last season, while with the Connecticut Sun, she faced backlash for an incident where she accidentally gave Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark a black eye during a playoff game. Carrington later claimed it was unintentional and that she was not laughing about the matter.

On another occasion, Carrington made headlines after wearing a shirt that read, “The F— Donald Trump Tour” at a WNBA game in Miami. Following the game, she expressed the need for WNBA players to take action regarding political issues affecting women’s and LGBTQ rights.

The incident continues to draw attention as the WNBA season progresses, showcasing the intersection of sports and social issues.
