WNBA Investigates Abuse Claims Against Angel Reese from Fans

Chicago, Illinois — The WNBA is investigating reports of abuse aimed at player Angel Reese during a game against the Indiana Fever on Saturday. The league stated that it condemns any form of racism and discrimination and is taking the claims seriously.
During a media availability on Tuesday, Reese expressed gratitude for the support she has received from her team and the league throughout the investigation. “Obviously there’s no place in this league for that,” the 23-year-old forward said. “I think the WNBA and our team and our organization has done a great job supporting me.”
Reese, who recorded 12 points and 17 rebounds during the game, acknowledged the difficulty of processing the incident but emphasized her strong support system. “I’ve gone through so many different things in the past couple of years, but I think just having the support and this love, and being a part of an organization that really supports me is something I just couldn’t imagine not being a part of,” she added.
Chicago Sky head coach Tyler Marsh praised Reese’s resilience. He noted, “She’s handled it great. I mean, for her, it’s about basketball, so I think that’s where her mind is at.” Marsh also confirmed the team’s commitment to support Reese. “It’s the kind of environment that we want to create here,” he said.
After the alleged incident, Indiana Fever CEO Mel Raines confirmed that the team is cooperating with the WNBA’s investigation and reaffirmed their dedication to ensuring a safe environment for all players. “We stand firm in our commitment to providing a safe environment for all WNBA players,” Raines stated.
Reese’s fellow competitor, Indiana’s star guard Caitlin Clark, also spoke out against the alleged abuse, saying, “There’s no place for that in our game, there’s no place for that in society.” Clark commended the effort of both the WNBA and the Fever in addressing the situation.
The two teams are scheduled to meet three more times this season, with the ongoing issue at the forefront of their competition. Both organizations continue to promote a message of respect and unity as they address the incident. The WNBA also reiterated its commitment to fostering a welcoming environment through its ‘No Space for Hate’ initiative.
