WNBA Player Calls Referee’s Actions ‘Microaggression’ During Game Incident

CHICAGO, IL — Dallas Wings player DiJonai Carrington has accused referees of a “microaggression” after they called security during a heated altercation at a game against the Chicago Sky on Thursday. The incident occurred as Carrington engaged with officials following her team’s loss.
In a social media post on X, Carrington voiced her frustrations, stating, “Security… when I’m literally having a civil conversation is insane.” She shared a clip of the incident, highlighting her belief that the security call was unnecessary.
During the altercation, a security guard intervened, placing himself between Carrington and an official who seemed to back away for protection. Carrington’s comments have sparked reactions across social media, drawing support from former player Cheryl Swoopes, who criticized the referees’ actions.
Swoopes remarked, “If this man was scared (of what, I don’t know) and needed security, he should NEVER be able to ref again! This can’t be real!”
This is not the first time Carrington has found herself in a controversial spotlight. Last season, while playing for the Connecticut Sun, she accidentally caused a black eye to Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark, which led to significant attention on social media.
Following that incident, Carrington was also vocal about political issues, wearing a shirt that read, “The F— Donald Trump Tour” at a Miami game in January. She later called for WNBA players to take action against policies affecting women’s and LGBTQ rights.
The WNBA has not yet commented on the recent incident involving Carrington and the referees. As the league continues to address social and political issues, players like Carrington have emerged as influential voices advocating for change.
