Wolverines Face Terrapins in Crucial Big Ten Showdown

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The No. 15 Michigan Wolverines are set to face the No. 14 Maryland Terrapins in a critical Big Ten matchup on March 5 at 6:30 p.m. ET. With just two regular-season games remaining, Michigan aims to secure a share of the Big Ten title after winning only two of their last four games against in-state rivals.
This will be Michigan’s final home game of the season, and they seek to rebound against Maryland, whom they have faced 22 times before, holding a 13-9 all-time record against the Terrapins. However, Michigan has lost its last two encounters in the series.
The Wolverines, with a season record of 22-8, hope to capitalize on the impressive performances of center Vladislav Goldin, who has registered 20 or more points in four of his last five games. Goldin also boasts two double-doubles in that stretch, reflecting his importance on the court for Michigan’s playoff hopes.
“We need to focus on consistency and find our rhythm,” Goldin said after practice. “Every game counts right now.”
Michigan will also rely on 7-foot forward Danny Wolf, a transfer from Yale, who had a disappointing nine points in a recent 20-point loss to Illinois. The pressure will be on Wolf to step up against Maryland’s physical frontcourt.
Maryland enters the game with a strong 22-7 record and has emerged as a formidable contender in the Big Ten. Freshman Derik Queen recently wrapped up a remarkable streak of five consecutive double-doubles, though he scored a team-high 23 points during a win over Penn State last Saturday.
“We’re ready for this challenge,” Queen stated. “Michigan’s a tough opponent, but so are we.”
On the other hand, Michigan State, the in-state rival of the Wolverines, has experienced its own success, recently defeating Maryland and maintaining a strong 23-5 overall record. The Spartans, led by guard Tre Holloman, have secured four consecutive wins.
Michigan State will also play their next game against No. 12 Wisconsin, showcasing the competitive nature of the Big Ten. The match against Wisconsin is slated for March 2 at 1:30 p.m. ET.
Fans can catch the live action of the Michigan vs. Maryland game on the Big Ten Network, and streaming options are available. Those following the game will find it integral for both teams as they look to solidify their standings ahead of the approaching playoffs.
