LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 8/11 University of Kentucky women’s basketball team will host No. 3/3 Texas on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. ET at Historic Memorial Coliseum. The game is part of the program’s annual Play4Kay awareness initiative, focused on raising awareness for breast cancer.
During this event, the Wildcats will don special white uniforms with pink lining, and pink pom-poms will be distributed to fans at the door. Additionally, Pei Pei will perform during halftime, adding a festive atmosphere to the evening.
Big Blue Nation has the opportunity to purchase single-game tickets for the remaining home games of the season. Darren Headrick will provide the radio commentary on UK Sports Network, marking his eighth consecutive season as the voice of the Wildcats. The broadcast can be heard on 630 AM WLAP (Lexington) and 790 AM WKRD (Louisville). Fans can also catch the game on ESPN2 with Courtney Lyle and Carolyn Peck providing commentary.
The Wildcats are coming into this matchup with a record of 19-3 overall, including 8-2 in the Southeastern Conference and an impressive 4-1 against ranked opponents. Kentucky has maintained a perfect 12-0 record at home this season and has won both of its games against ranked teams at the Memorial Coliseum.
In the previous home game, Kentucky defeated No. 22/22 Alabama by a score of 65-56 on Jan. 30, marking a significant milestone as the program’s 500th victory at Historic Memorial Coliseum. The team is aiming for its first 20-win season since 2019-20, a feat accomplished 20 times in program history.
Kenny Brooks, now in his 23rd season as head coach, has led 18 teams to achieve at least 20 wins throughout his coaching career, which has included tenures at James Madison University, Virginia Tech, and Kentucky.
The upcoming game between the Wildcats and Longhorns will be the third all-time encounter between the teams. Kentucky currently trails Texas 0-2 in the series, with both prior matchups taking place at neutral sites. The last meeting ended in a narrow 72-70 victory for Texas during the Rainbow Wahine Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Nov. 24, 2007.
In terms of player performance, all five of Kentucky’s starters are averaging double-digit scoring, with All-American point guard Georgia Amoore leading the way with 19.2 points per game. Amoore also holds the team record for three-point field goals with 55 and ranks second nationally with 7.4 assists per game.
Clara Strack, a finalist for the Lisa Leslie Center of the Year award, leads the team and ranks third in the SEC with 9.6 rebounds per game. She recently broke the school record for single-game blocks with eight against Ole Miss. Strack is just 10 blocks away from breaking the single-season school record.
Other notable milestones include Dazia Lawrence, who needs 43 points to reach 1,500 for her career, while Amoore needs 48 assists to break the school record.
As Kentucky prepares to face Texas, the excitement surrounding the game continues to grow, contributing to a thrilling season for the Wildcats.
