DC Women Dominate RCB, Securing Victory by Nine Wickets

BENGALURU, India — The Delhi Capitals Women (DC) secured a convincing nine-wicket victory over the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the 14th match of the ongoing tournament on March 1, 2025. Chasing a target of 148 runs, DC finished strong at 151 for 1 in just 15.3 overs, with player of the match recognition going to their star batsman, who scored 80 runs off 43 balls.
The win is significant for DC, who now hold eight points from six matches and are building momentum in the league. Their bowling attack has been notably effective in recent games, limiting opponents to sub-130 totals. This match showcased their strong performance as they dismissed RCB for 147 runs.
DC capitalized on a resilient batting display from their top order, which included a remarkable partnership that left RCB scrambling. Captain Meg Lanning and opener Shafali Verma set the pace, providing a solid foundation for their innings.
“Everyone contributed to the success today; we approached our innings with aggression and discipline,” Lanning stated post-match. “With our bowling performing well, it feels good to be back on track.”
In their encounter, RCB struggled again, now facing a three-match losing streak at home, with captain Smriti Mandhana expressing concern over their batting dependency on Ellyse Perry. The team’s recent performances raised questions about their depth, particularly in traditional spin bowling, where they missed the services of Asha Sobhana, Sophie Molineux, and Shreyanka Patil.
Mandhana said, “We need to find the right balance. It is vital for us to step up as a unit rather than relying on individual performances.”
RCB altered their squad dynamic ahead of this match, including a tactical change that brought in leg-spinner Prema Rawat, but the adjustment did not result in the desired impact. Rawat’s over in the previous game raised concerns about the effectiveness of their changes.
Both teams showcased a series of impressive fielding talents during the match. For DC, Minnu Mani stood out, executing critical catches and saves, including bowling figures of 3 for 17 in her three overs. “Fielding is a crucial aspect of our game, and every run saved counts,” Mani said.
As the tournament continues, DC looks to maintain their positive trajectory, while RCB faces immediate pressure to rectify their form, especially with upcoming matches that are pivotal for their playoff hopes. With the next clash scheduled to be in Lucknow, RCB will need to address its inconsistencies to regain the support of their fans.
