Women's Premier League 2024 Schedule Announced: Mumbai Indians To Kick Off Tournament Against Delhi Capitals

Defending champions Mumbai Indians are set to kick off the 2024 edition of Women’s Premier League (WPL) with a match against 2023 runners-up Delhi Capitals. The tournament will commence on February 23 at the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, with the final slated to be held on March 17 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

The Women’s Premier League 2024 will feature five teams competing for the title. Alongside Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, the participating teams include Gujarat Giants, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and UP Warriorz. The initial matches of the tournament from February 23 to March 4 will be hosted at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, while the remaining fixtures, including the knockouts, will take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

The schedule of the Women’s Premier League 2024 has been announced, with a total of 22 matches set to be played. The first match on February 23 will witness a repeat of last year’s final as defending champions Mumbai Indians take on Delhi Capitals. Each team will play eight games, and there will be one league-stage game every day from February 23 to March 13, without any double-header days scheduled.

The top team on the points table at the end of the league stage will directly qualify for the final on March 17. The teams finishing second and third will compete in the Eliminator on March 15 to secure a spot in the final.

The WPL 2024 auctions witnessed some high-profile purchases. Gujarat Giants secured the most expensive uncapped player, Emily Arlott, for ₹2 crore. Australia’s Annabel Sutherland and South Africa’s Shabnim Ismail were also notable purchases. Sutherland will represent Delhi Capitals, while Ismail will join Mumbai Indians. These players are expected to add immense value to their respective teams in the upcoming tournament.
