Woody Harrelson True Detective Interview

NEW YORK, NY – Woody Harrelson has confirmed he will not return to HBO‘s acclaimed series ‘True Detective‘. In an interview on NBC’s ‘Today‘, Harrelson addressed speculation about a potential reunion with fellow actor Matthew McConaughey, who expressed openness to revisiting their characters.

During the interview, co-host Dylan Dreyer asked about the possibility of a new season focusing on their roles as Detectives Rust Cohle and Marty Hart. McConaughey had said he would consider returning if the script was right, stating, “If Woody and I think it’s good enough, it wouldn’t even be a choice.” Harrelson, however, dismissed those chances, saying, “In fairness, never. No chance.”

Harrelson explained his decision by praising the success of the show’s first season, which aired in 2014. “I love that it turned out the way it did, and if anything, doing another season would, I think, tarnish that,” he said.

‘True Detective’ creator Nic Pizzolatto previously mentioned he has ideas for a new story centered on the duo, stating, “It’s just something I had in my head.” He noted that although they have spoken about it, no concrete plans are in place.

While fans may be disappointed, Harrelson revealed he and McConaughey are collaborating on a comedy for Apple TV+. He stated, “We are doing something together, and hopefully people dig it,” although he did not disclose further details.

The first season of ‘True Detective’ received critical acclaim and multiple awards, and it set a high bar for any potential return. Harrelson’s firm stance underscores his feelings about preserving the show’s legacy.
