Miles Chamley Watson Fencing Competition

LOS ANGELES, CA — The World Fencing League (WFL) is set to make its global debut in April 2026, marking a new chapter for the historic sport of fencing. With roots in 16th-century European sword fighting and a place among the original Olympic events, fencing remains one of the oldest forms of combat.

The WFL aims to modernize the sport by employing advanced proprietary blade tracking technology and data-driven rule changes to enhance viewer engagement. The league’s tagline, “Live by the sword, die by the sword,” reflects its commitment to honor, precision, and rivalry, reimagined for a contemporary audience.

Miles Chamley-Watson, a three-time Olympian and the league’s founder, will lead this initiative. Recognized for his achievements as a World Champion and as the first African American World Champion, Chamley-Watson has worked to break barriers in the sport. He recently showcased his influence at Vogue World 2025 and launched a signature sneaker, “Airmiles,” in collaboration with Nike.

“The World Fencing League is modernizing the sport for today’s fans and the next generation,” says Chamley-Watson. “We’re creating a movement that will redefine how people see and experience fencing — it’s going to be game changing.”

At the core of this transformation is Dentsu Lab Tokyo / Rhizomatiks’ blade-tracking technology, designed for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. This system captures every action during a match in real-time, making the sport more accessible to viewers.

The live event will feature a condensed format where 12 elite fencers, including Chamley-Watson and Olympic Champion Lee Kiefer, will compete in mixed-gender teams. The event promises live scoring graphics, motion-capture replays, and a total prize purse exceeding $100,000. It will also be broadcast globally, with expansion plans for markets across the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

Alongside Chamley-Watson and Kiefer, notable competitors include Yuki Ota, a medalist and highly regarded figure in the fencing community. “We’re excited to be building something that bridges heritage and innovation,” said Zhen Ren Teo, CEO of the World Fencing League.

The league has initially secured funding through a family office connected to the sport and is being incubated by Chiron Sports Group, known for its innovative approach in transforming the sports landscape.
