Wozniacki and Williams Spark Tennis Comeback Speculation as French Open Unfolds

PARIS, France — Former world No. 1 tennis players Caroline Wozniacki and Venus Williams are drawing attention on TNT Sports as they analyze the ongoing French Open from both sides of the Atlantic. While both have turned to punditry, questions arise about their future potential returns to the court.
Caroline Wozniacki, who boasts 30 WTA Tour titles, initially retired in 2020 after her Grand Slam victory at the Australian Open. Following the birth of her two children with NBA player David Lee, she made an unexpected comeback in summer 2023. Wozniacki advanced to the second week of both the 2023 and 2024 US Opens and reached the third round at Wimbledon in 2024. However, she withdrew from the Australian Open in early 2025, citing her pregnancy.
Speaking at a TNT event, Wozniacki, now seven months pregnant, hinted that returning to the sport post-maternity could be a possibility. “Honestly, I haven’t made a decision yet,” she said. “I don’t know how my body is going to feel after this baby.”
Venus Williams, a seven-time Grand Slam champion, has not played since early 2024 and currently holds no WTA ranking. After being awarded a wildcard for this year’s Indian Wells, she decided against competing. Williams affirmed to TNT that she remains open to returning to professional tennis at the right time. “Commentating allows me to stay immersed in the sport without the physical demands of competition,” she stated.
Meanwhile, Lois Boisson has emerged as a standout player at the French Open. The 22-year-old reached the second week of the tournament, making an impressive debut as the last French representative in the singles draw. Boisson faced adversity after undergoing knee surgery last year, which sidelined her for nine months. Her underdog victory over 24th seed Elise Mertens in the opening round has captivated fans.
As Boisson prepares for a match against world No. 3, her remarkable performance has resulted in significant ranking points and a notable prize money boost that will surely impact her budding career.
