Wrexham Soccer Team Celebration

WREXHAM, Wales — Wrexham AFC is set to celebrate their third consecutive promotion after finishing runner-up in League One. The club, co-owned by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, will compete in the second tier of English soccer next season, just one level below the Premier League. This rise is remarkable for a team that was in non-league football before the Hollywood duo purchased it in 2021.

To mark this achievement, Wrexham will host a ticket-only awards party at the Racecourse Ground stadium on Sunday. The event is expected to draw a large crowd, following a thrilling 3-0 victory against Charlton Athletic that capped off the season.

In attendance were nearly 13,000 fans celebrating the promotion, which brings with it new challenges as the team prepares for a more competitive league. The club, however, has decided against holding a traditional open-top bus parade, typically reserved for league champions.

The awards party will recognize player achievements for the season, including the announcement of Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year. Live music will accompany the celebrations, although it remains unclear whether Reynolds or McElhenney will attend the festivities.

Critics of the lack of a parade expressed disappointment, arguing that the achievement of three consecutive promotions deserves a larger celebration. One fan stated, “History warrants a parade,” emphasizing the significance of their accomplishment.

Regardless, the club is looking optimistically toward the future, with aspirations of reaching the Premier League. Their final match of the season will take place away at Lincoln City.
