Wrexham Set for Preseason Tour in Australia and New Zealand

Wrexham, Wales — Wrexham AFC, the football club owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, will embark on a preseason tour of Australia and New Zealand this July. The tour includes matches against Melbourne Victory, Sydney FC, and Wellington Phoenix.
The Red Dragons will kick off their Australian tour at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne on July 11, followed by a match against Sydney FC at Allianz Stadium on July 15. They will conclude the tour in New Zealand against Wellington Phoenix at Sky Stadium on July 19.
Wrexham’s trip comes after a historic season where the club achieved three consecutive promotions, moving them to the Championship, one tier below the Premier League. This rapid ascent was highlighted in the documentary series ‘Welcome to Wrexham,’ which has gained popularity in Australia and New Zealand.
In a joint statement, Reynolds and McElhenney expressed their excitement about the tour. “From the very beginning, we wanted to make Wrexham a globally recognized team, town, and brand,” the co-chairmen said. “We could not be more excited to bring the Red Dragons to Australia and New Zealand.”
The matches in Australia and New Zealand aim to build on the international audience for Wrexham, leveraging the club’s growing fan base outside of the UK. Tickets for the matches will go on sale starting May 16, with a pre-sale for club members beginning on May 14.
Club officials noted that this will be Wrexham’s first tour of the Southern Hemisphere and the team looks forward to engaging with fans in the region. The last two summers saw the club tour North America, where they played against high-profile teams like Manchester United and Chelsea.
As the season approaches, Wrexham’s management believes the tour will serve as an ideal preparation for the upcoming Championship campaign and provide valuable exposure to new markets.
“This summer tour promises to be another exciting chapter in the story of Wrexham Football Club,” Reynolds and McElhenney added. “It will be a great way for all our Wrexham fans down there to see the team.” The club is looking forward to showcasing their progress and engaging with supporters across the globe.
