GREENSBORO, North Carolina — WWE hosted a thrilling episode of Friday Night SmackDown on May 16, 2025, at the First Horizon Coliseum, marked by the women’s title defense and Money in the Bank qualifiers.

The show featured WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton defending her title against Nia Jax. In a tightly contested match, Stratton retained her championship after executing her signature Prettiest Moonsault Ever. The match’s conclusion saw Jax attempt to walk out with the title but was thwarted by Stratton’s quick thinking and a dropkick to a chair, allowing for the win via pinfall.

Before the main event, the night was packed with qualification matches for the upcoming Money in the Bank ladder event. In the women’s division, Alexa Bliss triumphed over Chelsea Green and Michin in a thrilling encounter, securing her place in the ladder match with a victory using her Sister Abigail DDT.

Meanwhile, the men’s qualifiers were equally exciting. Solo Sikoa secured a spot in the Money in the Bank match by pinning Rey Fenix with his Samoan Spike in a triple threat that also included Jimmy Uso. In a similar twist of fate, JC Mateo defeated LA Knight to claim his spot as well.

As the night progressed, tensions flared between Drew McIntyre and Damian Priest, who called for a steel cage match at Saturday Night’s Main Event, promising a grudge match that would resolve their ongoing conflict.

In other backstage segments, Andrade and Rey Fenix were interrupted by The Bloodline, escalating ongoing tensions. Additionally, Santos Escobar spoke to Angel Garza about reconciling with his cousin Humberto Carrillo, creating intrigue for future storylines.

As the episode ended, fans were left looking forward to the upcoming events, including Shinsuke Nakamura’s highly anticipated return next week and the buildup to Money in the Bank on June 2.
