Xavier Legette to Cover Kentucky Derby as NFL’s Social Correspondent

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina — Carolina Panthers wide receiver Xavier Legette will serve as the NFL’s social correspondent during the 151st Kentucky Derby this weekend at Churchill Downs. The event is set to kick off on Saturday at 6:57 p.m. ET.
Legette, a first-round draft pick in 2024, has a deep connection to horses, growing up near Mullins, South Carolina, where he spent time at his uncle’s stables. “I have loved horses my entire life. They were my escape as a kid,” Legette said.
At 6-foot-3 and 227 pounds, Legette is known for his athleticism on the field and is often spotted riding his American Quarter Horse named “Dolla Bill.” Although “Dolla Bill” won’t be racing, Legette joked that he might be able to step in as an emergency jockey if needed.
“I was about five years old the first time I rode a horse. My uncle would bring horses for my birthday every year, and we spent weekends at the stable,” Legette explained, recalling his early experiences. His passion for horses continues, as he currently owns 14 horses back home in South Carolina.
In preparation for the Derby, Legette is excited to create social media content showcasing the event, leveraging his charisma and love for horse racing. He shared on the “Up & Adams” podcast that he is rooting for the 30-1 underdog, Chunk of Gold, to win the race.
Legette had a successful rookie season with 49 receptions for 497 yards and four touchdowns. He is looking forward to further developing his talents alongside his new teammates in Carolina.
In a unique twist, Legette follows in the footsteps of former Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme, who also has a rich history in horse racing.
