Xiyu Wang Tennis Player Ningbo Open

Chinese tennis player Xiyu Wang secured a decisive victory over Russia‘s Kamilla Rakhimova in the second round of the Ningbo Open on October 14, 2024. Wang dominated the match, winning in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-3. This win marks a significant milestone for Wang, who has been inconsistent in her recent performances.

Wang, ranked 99th in the world, has had a mixed season so far. Despite her recent losses, including a first-round exit in Wuhan where she lost to Mirra Andreeva, Wang’s performance against Rakhimova showed her resilience and skill on the hard court. Her overall record in 2024 stands at 23-26, with 14-16 on hard surfaces.

This match was the first encounter between Wang and Rakhimova at the main tour level. Wang’s victory was predicted by several analysts, given her strong record on hard courts and her recent form improvements. Rakhimova, who had a winning record in the last 8 years with 59% of her matches won, put up a good fight but ultimately could not match Wang’s consistency and power.

Wang’s career highlights include reaching a career-high singles ranking of world No. 32 on October 9, 2023, and winning the women’s doubles title at the 2023 French Open alongside Hsieh Su-wei. She also won a silver medal in mixed doubles at the 2024 Summer Olympics with Zhang Zhizhen.
