Portland, Oregon — Portland Trail Blazers rookie center Yang Hansen made a strong impression in his second preseason game Friday, scoring 16 points in just 17 minutes against the Golden State Warriors. Hansen also grabbed four rebounds, provided an assist, and blocked three shots, showcasing his talent after a disappointing debut just two days earlier.

Despite committing five personal fouls, Hansen demonstrated his scoring ability, hitting two of three attempts from behind the three-point line. His performance was a welcome sight for Trail Blazers fans who were anxious after his first outing, where he only scored four points in 21 minutes before fouling out.

“He’s had some moments in camp where he shows some flashes,” Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups said. “He’s had some moments where you’re just like, ‘Wow. He’s not supposed to be doing that at that size.’” Billups expressed relief for Hansen, noting that the young player is eager to contribute to the team.

After his last game, Hansen shared his feelings about his performance. “Even when I made the second three, I still feel my hands shaking,” he said through an interpreter. “When I got the layups, when I got that spin — I feel like that’s my move — so when I got my move today, I think that’s the moment I let it go.”

Billups remarked on Hansen’s improvement, stating, “He was good. He was really good all over the place. I thought his rim protection was tri-level, a lot of block shots. To see him come out the very next game and play so much better … it makes you happy.”

As the preseason continues, the Trail Blazers are looking to establish their rotation, and Hansen’s performance has put him in contention for backup center minutes. He was a surprising first-round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, and many believe he has the potential to become a star in the league.

Hansen acknowledges his areas for improvement, particularly his foot speed. “Everyone except me,” he quipped when asked about the most athletic player in training camp. Yet, he is confident that with more training and acclimation to the NBA style, he can succeed as part of the team.

With a strong work ethic, Hansen has drawn attention for his basketball IQ, including impressive passing skills and rim protection. Last season in China, he averaged 16.6 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, proving his potential to contribute significantly.
