Yankees Padres Baseball Game Highlights

NEW YORK — The New York Yankees staged a thrilling comeback to defeat the San Diego Padres 4-3 in extra innings on Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium, clinching the series with a dramatic walk-off win.

Going into the seventh inning, the Yankees were hitless and trailing 3-1, largely due to a stellar performance from Padres pitcher Dylan Cease, who carried a no-hitter into the seventh. However, Cody Bellinger ended Cease’s no-hit bid with a solo home run, tying the game at 1-1.

After the Padres took a 3-1 lead in the eighth inning, the Yankees bounced back. Trent Grisham, pinch-hitting in the eighth, smacked a two-run homer, leveling the score once again. This was Grisham’s 10th home run of the season.

In the bottom of the tenth, after the Yankees held the Padres scoreless in the top half, the team executed a perfect strategy to secure the win. Jasson Domínguez, the automatic runner, moved to third after a sacrifice bunt by Oswaldo Cabrera. Pinch-hitter J.C. Escarra then delivered a sacrifice fly, allowing Domínguez to score the winning run.

“A lot was going through my mind. My heart was pounding through my chest,” Escarra said after the game. “But this makes it all worth it.” He thanked manager Aaron Boone and his teammates for their support during the crucial at-bat.

Max Fried, the Yankees’ starting pitcher, delivered a strong performance, allowing only one run over seven innings. His sole mistake came in the fourth inning when Jackson Merrill hit a home run. Fried finished with eight strikeouts and no walks, bringing his ERA to 1.05.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone praised Fried’s performance, noting it was one of his best games of the season. “His command was really good tonight,” Boone said.

On the other hand, Dylan Cease struck out nine batters in his dominant performance before leaving with an apparent forearm injury. The Yankees took advantage of his departure, staging a comeback that included key hits from both Bellinger and Grisham.

Despite some struggles in the bullpen, the Yankees managed to secure the win with strong defense in the tenth. Devin Williams entered the game and managed to escape a bases-loaded jam, striking out the final three batters he faced.

The Yankees will have a day off on Thursday before heading to Sacramento to face the Athletics in a three-game series starting Friday night.
