Yankees Call Up Yerry de los Santos for Doubleheader Challenge

New York, NY – The New York Yankees are calling upon Yerry de los Santos as they face a doubleheader on Sunday after a rainout. The team needed help in their bullpen and turned to de los Santos, a lesser-known member of their 40-man roster.
De los Santos, who was added during the offseason, briefly seemed poised to join the Yankees’ Opening Day bullpen before Ryan Yarbrough became available. Instead, Yarbrough made the roster alongside other left-handed pitchers, sending de los Santos to the minor leagues in Scranton.
After spending parts of the last two seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates, the 26-year-old right-hander is set to make his Yankees debut. He has shown promise in Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season, allowing just one earned run in 8 1/3 innings while striking out nine batters.
During spring training, he was also effective, permitting only two earned runs over 9 1/3 innings, though he did struggle with walks, issuing six.
As the Yankees face a busy day with possibly limited pitching resources, de los Santos is expected to play a key role, especially with closer Devin Williams potentially unavailable due to earlier challenges on the mound. The team and fans hope for a strong performance, particularly with the scoreboard in New York’s favor.
