Trent Grisham New York Yankees April 2025

BALTIMORE — Trent Grisham is proving his worth to the New York Yankees this season, as the outfielder continues to shine early in Year 2 following a pivotal trade last year. The 25-year-old has adjusted to his new role and is thriving at Camden Yards.

In 2024, Grisham struggled with his playing time, finding it challenging to adapt to not being in the lineup every day. However, as he embraced this change, he began to make significant improvements. This season, he is contributing power at the plate and solid defense in center field. “It’s a little bit affirming, but I’m not after having a good April,” Grisham said. “It’s all about the process for me right now, where I’m at mentally and riding that out.”

Grisham’s growth has been evident, making him a key player for the Yankees. He hit a solo home run during the first inning of a recent game, showcasing his ability to impact the game offensively.

Meanwhile, Yankees’ second baseman DJ LeMahieu is making strides in his recovery from a strained left calf. After playing back-to-back games for the first time in his minor league rehab assignment, LeMahieu looks set to transition to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this week. Aaron Boone confirmed that LeMahieu has had success at the plate, recording a homer and going 6-for-10 in four games at Double-A Somerset.

“His workload will increase beginning Tuesday with SWB this week,” Boone mentioned, adding that LeMahieu is likely to return to third base with the team needing depth at the position.

Meanwhile, Aaron Boone shared his satisfaction with Anthony Volpe‘s recent performance, highlighting a positive change in his swing. He praised Volpe for his opposite-field home run in a game over the weekend, noting that it sparked a three-run inning in a 5-1 victory. “Nice and easy,” Boone said of Volpe’s swings. “That’s what he’s capable of.”

In the bullpen, Devin Williams is working to regain his closer role after a rough start to the season. Boone noted that Williams’ recent outing, which saw him throw a clean inning against the Orioles, is a positive sign as he looks to rebuild his confidence.

Looking ahead, the Yankees are also monitoring several injured players. Giancarlo Stanton continues his recovery from tennis elbow in New York, while Jonathan Loáisiga prepares for his next rehab outing. Marcus Stroman is facing knee inflammation, hindering his progress. Boone provided updates on each situation, signaling that the team is optimistic about their returns.

As the season unfolds, the Yankees are hopeful that contributions from players like Grisham and LeMahieu will strengthen their lineup as they navigate injuries and seek success on the field.
