NEW YORK, N.Y. — Yankees superstar Juan Soto is on the cusp of a pivotal decision in his career as he braces for free agency in the upcoming offseason. With potential contracts reportedly nearing the $500 million mark, Soto’s future in pinstripes remains uncertain.

The four-time All-Star has been an integral part of the Yankees’ lineup, playing a key role in the team’s victory over the Kansas City Royals with a 3-2 win in Game 3 of their AL Division Series. Soto’s contract situation is being managed by his agent, Scott Boras, allowing the player to focus solely on the game.

“At the end of the day, I just try to focus on the game,” Soto said in a pre-game interview. “I’m here more about the game — try to win, try to find a way to win — and try to help the team.”

This season, Soto has been a standout performer, batting .288 with 41 home runs and 109 RBIs, while leading the league with 128 runs scored. His performance was a significant factor in the Yankees clinching the AL East title over the Baltimore Orioles.

Despite earlier expressing willingness to negotiate with the Yankees during the season, Soto’s talks have been deferred to post-season. “The whole free-agent talks and everything, I just leave that to my agent, let him handle it,” said Soto.

Previously, Soto turned down a $440 million, 15-year contract from the Washington Nationals before they traded him to the San Diego Padres in August 2022. Despite the Padres missing the playoffs last season, they have found their form this year, currently competing against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL Division Series.

Soto, now with the Yankees, emphasized the unique experience of wearing their iconic jersey. “When you put that jersey on and those pinstripes, it just feels different,” he remarked.

His journey with the Yankees may continue into the next season, contingent upon team budgets and contractual negotiations led by Boras. Soto’s teammate set the market standard in 2022 with a $360 million, nine-year deal with the Yankees, while another player surpassed that with a $700 million, 10-year agreement with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

“No, no, I always keep that to my agent,” Soto said, expressing his detachment from the financial intricacies of his future in the sport. “We keep it simple — just come here, enjoy the moment, enjoy where we’re at, and we’ll see what happens.”
