Spencer Jones New York Yankees Outfielder Prospect

Somerset, NJ — New York Yankees outfielder prospect Spencer Jones has made significant changes to his batting stance as he approaches what many consider a pivotal 2025 season. After a disappointing year that saw him strike out 200 times in Double-A, Jones is looking to turn his fortunes around with an evolving approach at the plate.

Jones, who stands at 6 feet 7 inches tall, entered the season with a closed stance, similar to that of teammate Aaron Judge. However, he quickly began modifying his setup. Within the first week of the season, he transitioned to a more neutral stance, and by mid-April, he adopted a wider and more crouched position that some observers liken to Jeff Bagwell’s adjustments in his playing days.

This shift in stance has yielded positive results for Jones, who in 82 plate appearances has hit eight home runs and driven in 14 runs for the Somerset Patriots. His on-base percentage currently stands at .346, showing improvement despite only a .232 batting average. This contrasts sharply with his struggles last year, when he had a strikeout rate of 36.8%.

“Spencer is tied for second in the minors with eight home runs this season,” Baseball America noted in a recent tweet, highlighting Jones’ power as he continues to refine his swing. “His stance is changing, quite literally by the day,” indicating a dynamic adjustment process that appears to be working for the prospect.

His improved plate discipline has been evident, as he has managed to cut down on his chase rate and improve contact across the strike zone. Previously, Jones faced issues with swing-and-miss tendencies, particularly against pitches down and in. The new stance appears to offer him a better view of incoming pitches, allowing for quicker decision-making.

As of now, Jones aims to secure a promotion to Triple-A with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders if he maintains this positive trajectory. He was originally drafted 25th overall in 2022 out of Vanderbilt and is expected to make his MLB debut soon if he continues his strong performance.

The Somerset Patriots currently sit with an 11-12 record in the Eastern League, placing them fourth in the Northeast Division. Despite the team’s struggles, Jones’ individual progress shows promise as he works towards his goal of reaching the major leagues.
