Yankees’ Will Warren Seeks Consistency Ahead of A’s Series

BRONX, New York — Yankees pitcher Will Warren is looking to improve as he prepares for his next start against the Oakland Athletics on Friday. Despite an unfavorable 5.65 ERA over seven starts, Warren believes he is on the cusp of better performances.
“The results may have not shown it, but collectively, I think I’ve gotten better every outing at something,” Warren said Wednesday, before throwing a bullpen session. “I know that I’m close. I think the team feels that it’s there. It’s just putting it together at this point.”
This season, Warren has tallied a 1-2 record with 34 strikeouts in 28.1 innings. He has faced difficulties, particularly against left-handed hitters, who are hitting .280 against him. He has also struggled with walks, averaging 4.7 per nine innings.
Warren’s challenges have put pressure on the Yankees’ bullpen as he has not pitched beyond five innings in any start. The team came into the season with several injuries to their rotation and relied on Warren to step up in a significant role.
“We’ve got some challenges internally, but we might have to look to add another starter,” a Yankees source said. “Warren has potential, but he needs to find a groove soon.”
In their latest game, the Yankees faced off against the Tampa Bay Rays. They lost 7-5, marking their second consecutive series loss. Warren pitched 4.2 innings, allowing three earned runs while striking out eight batters.
“They took advantage of every little thing we gave them,” Warren said, assessing his performance. As the Yankees prepare to face the A’s, they aim to regain their early-season momentum.
The upcoming series is significant, as the Yankees maintain a solid +51 run differential but need to avoid slipping further against division rivals.
