16-Year-Old Nimfasha Berchimas Makes MLS Debut for Charlotte FC
At just 16 years old, Nimfasha Berchimas, the promising homegrown talent, marked his entry into the Major League Soccer (MLS) history books during the MLS is Back weekend.
The young winger made his debut for Charlotte FC in a momentous match, entering the field as a substitute for Michael Owusu in the 84th minute of the game against Vancouver Whitecaps FC at the iconic Bank of America Stadium.
Berchimas, a US youth international, had previously impressed with three goals in four matches at the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup, showcasing his potential on the global stage.
Charlotte FC’s historic victory, sealed by Dean Smith‘s debut as head coach, saw Berchimas becoming the ninth-youngest player ever to make an MLS debut, marking a significant milestone in his budding career.
Smith, demonstrating his confidence in young talents, expressed his readiness to provide opportunities to deserving players, regardless of their age, emphasizing that if they are prepared, they should be given the chance to shine.
