Yoendrys Gómez Impresses in Dodgers Debut After Yankees Release

LOS ÁNGELES, California — Venezuelan pitcher Yoendrys Gómez made a remarkable debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 27, 2025, just days after being released by the New York Yankees. The Yankees designated Gómez for assignment on April 22, marking a surprising turn for one of their top pitching prospects.
Before his release, Gómez had a respectable start to the season, boasting a 2.70 earned run average (ERA) with 11 strikeouts over 10 innings as a reliever. Despite this, he found himself available on the market when the Yankees decided to let him go.
Gómez quickly caught the attention of the Dodgers, who claimed him and integrated him into the major league roster without sending him to the minors. In his debut outing against the Pittsburgh Pirates, Gómez pitched three scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out four batters to secure a save.
The 24-year-old had previously shown promise, having pitched well against the Cleveland Guardians, where he allowed only one run in three innings while striking out one batter. Originally from Nirgua, Venezuela, Gómez was signed by the Yankees for $50,000 in 2016 and made his major league debut in 2023. He recorded his first solid season in 2024 with five appearances.
During his extended stay in the minor leagues, Gómez accumulated 385 strikeouts in 358 innings pitched, maintaining a 3.49 ERA and limiting opponents to a .216 batting average. His successful debut with the Dodgers marks a hopeful new chapter in his career.
